Yesterday we welcomed the BBC into our school so that they could report on our amazing eSports provision!

Following the journey of our accidental, international eSports celebrity, Mrs Coulson (teacher of Science for LiFE MAT), the BBC visited our school to see how Mrs Coulson’s rise to fame has had a direct benefit to our students and school community.

Visiting our purpose built, one of a kind, eSports centre, the BBC reporter was understandably impressed and amazed at the exceptional facilities available to our students, and how our students have an opportunity to undertake an A-Level in eSports, and also participate in eSports enrichment clubs.

Interviewing students from our eSports club, he was impressed with the level of focus and determination they have for playing competitive gaming, in a brilliant environment that has been designed to inspire. A-Level students discussed the opportunities the course gives them with their future careers and university courses too, and how our eSports arena is uniquely qualified to fulfil their ambitions.

Mrs Coulson explained that eSports is a multinational sport that is fast becoming one of the largest entertainment industries on the planet, attracting huge sums of money, both in terms of investment, careers and prize money. Mrs Coulson explained how the eSports arena came about as a direct result of her association with the internationally recognised Cloud9 gaming team, with input from eSports coaches from across the UK and world.

We’re delighted to support Leicestershire Police, who joined us today to share insights about #OperationSceptre.

This national campaign aims to raise awareness of knife crime and its significant impact.

The Police brought in metal detectors and showcased their activities in busy locations like football stadiums, airports and train stations to tackle dangerous behaviour.

Our Year 9 and 10 students participated in a fun exercise, going through an airport-style check, metal detecting archway, and some even checked their teachers with a metal detector!

This morning was a fantastic experience, helping us appreciate the vital role our police force plays in keeping us safe.

A big thank you to all the officers, students, and our wonderful staff for their enthusiasm! 😊

Today, our school community came together to honor Remembrance Day in a moving tribute to those who have served and sacrificed. A parade of our students belonging to local cadet, scout and guide groups, led by the stirring sound of a bagpiper, made its way through the campus to our Garden of Remembrance, where they joined students, staff, and guests who had gathered to observe a  two-minute silence.

In this shared moment of reflection, we paused to remember those who have given their lives in the line of duty, as well as those who continue to serve, protecting our freedoms and communities.

Our House students worked hard with Mrs Miller and Mrs Harding to create a beautiful, meaningful space where everyone could gather to pay their respects, adorned with symbols of remembrance that invited contemplation and gratitude.

The ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the importance of remembrance, unity, and peace, and we are grateful to everyone who participated and helped bring this event to life. We’re especially proud of our students for their contributions and their respect for this significant day.

On Friday, Countesthorpe Academy held its annual Careers Day, filled with a variety of enriching experiences for our students across all year groups!

Year 7 and 8 showcased their creativity and teamwork in a dynamic enterprise activity whilst Year 9 participated in an insightful assembly led by the Police and engaged in workshops focused on future employment pathways.

For Key Stage 4, the focus was all about looking ahead with the launch of our work experience programme for Year 10, giving them an early taste of career possibilities, and Year 11 started their journey toward college, actively applying for places that align with their passions and ambitions.

Meanwhile, our 6th Form students embraced even more opportunities! Our Year 12 enjoyed an inspiring visit to De Montfort University, exploring academic and career paths and Year 13 took part in the exciting Lions’ Lair challenge, where they collaborated in teams to design and pitch an innovative app idea to industry employers!

An incredible day, where our fantastic students showed their best selves!!
