I am writing to inform you that we have made the decision to close the college to Year 8 students on Wednesday 18th March 2020 for one day only.
I wrote to you last week to explain that we may have to make the decision to close to some year groups, but be open to others. This would be dependent on the number of staff in school. We said we would prioritise and be open for exam classes (years 11, 12 and 13), whose examinations are only weeks away, and if numbers allowed us year 7 students who are young to be at home alone. We also said that depending on safe levels of staffing we would look to also accommodate years 8, 9 and 10 and if we only needed to close for one or two year groups, we would look to rotate which year groups would be expected in school if we remained partially closed for a number of days.
We have therefore made the decision to close the school for Year 8 students on Wednesday 18th March 2020.
Work for Year 8 will be set via Show My Homework for English Maths and Science tomorrow. Students should check this after 9am tomorrow and we expect them to be working on this at home.
All other year groups should attend as normal and we are confident at this point we will be able to operate a normal timetable for students in Year 7,9,10,11, 12 & 13.
This has been a difficult decision but we have needed to make this to allow us to keep the college open for as long as we possibly can to help support the everyone in the community in this difficult time.
Any students in Year 8 whose parents/carers work for the Emergency Services can continue to come into school and should report to the Dining Hall at the Countesthorpe site on arrival to college.
We are constantly reviewing the situation and will update you as soon as we have further information. The partial closure is for one day only in the first instance.
Many thanks for your support at this time.
