College Closed for Year 8 and Year 9 Students – Thursday 19th March 2020

Dear parents/carers

Following the Prime Minister's announcement that all schools will close at the end of the day on Friday 20th March 2020, I am writing to inform you of the decisions the College has made as a result of this.

In preparation for the closure, students in Year 8 and Year 9 should not attend College on Thursday 19th March 2020.

Work for Year 8 and 9 will be set via Show My Homework for English, Maths and Science on Thursday 19th March 2020. Students should check this after 9am on Thursday 19th March 2020 and we expect them to be working on this at home.

Any students in Year 8 and 9 whose parents/carers work for the Emergency Services can continue to come into school and should report to the Dining Hall at the Countesthorpe site on arrival to College.

All other year groups should attend as normal and we are confident at this point we will be able to operate a normal timetable for students in Years 7, 10, 11, 12 & 13. Please encourage students in these year groups that are well and able to attend to do so in order that we can spend time preparing them for the closure. We will inform you on Thursday 19th March 2020 about arrangements for Friday 20th March 2020.

Please note that after school clubs and detentions will be cancelled for the remainder of this week.

The Prime Minister's announcement today included specific information about:

  • No Year 11 and Year 13 examinations in May and June
  • Support for vulnerable students
  • Support for students whose parents work in the emergency services or other essential roles.

Of particular concern to us all will be the arrangements for those students who were due to take GCSE and A Level exams. There will be special assemblies for Year 11 and Year 12 & 13 on Thursday 19th March 2020 in the morning so we can talk to students in these year groups about the impact of the closure.

At this point we have no specific detail on some of the points made in the announcement. As soon as we are in a position to do so, we will provide you with all the information you need to know.

Your continued support during this unprecedented period has been very much appreciated. I would ask for your patience as we put in place plans for the coming months. Please be assured we will inform you as soon as we are in a position to do so.

Best wishes

Mrs Aitcheson
Principal
