Sixth Form EPQ Students @DMU

Forty Countesthorpe Leysland Community College Sixth Form students spent today at DeMontfort University as part of their Extended Project Qualification A-Level.

The day began with an informative introduction to research skills by the lead Librarian from the Health & Life Sciences department, which introduced students to the vast wealth of resources available to the university's students and the complex system used to administer it.

As well as preparing students for finding sources useful for their individual projects, the session also provided insights into what many can expect when they themselves become undergraduates.

Students then had a couple of hours to collect resources on topics as diverse as: cervical screening, autism, Julius Caesar's reign, the UK's fostering sysyem, radiotherapy, the effectiveness of imprisonment, equine physiotherapy, laws relating to prostitution and Al Capone's leadership qualities.

Examiners reports were very complementary of last year's effective use of secondary research, contributing to a 67% rate of A* to B grades, and it's expected that today's excursion will be just as helpful.
