Reintroduction of Face Coverings in School

Dear Parents/Carers,

I am writing to tell you that yesterday we received information from the Director of Public Health for Leicestershire and the Director of Children and Family Services informing us that we should reintroduce face coverings in communal areas of the school (see the letter by following this link - https://bit.ly/3DTIoxE). This has been sent out to all schools in Leicestershire.

The letter explains that this is in response to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases across the county and in accordance with Government guidelines. The current epidemiological picture is affecting attendance, causing educational disruption and affecting the roll out of the vaccination programme. We must take action to ensure attendance is not further reduced. Case rates in the 11-16 years old population have been consistently high throughout the Autumn term. Although there are promising signs of a reduction in these age groups, rates remain high, and local and regional teams continue to deal with many school outbreaks affecting both staff and students.

As such, from Friday 26th November we will be reintroducing face coverings in communal areas.  Could we please ask for your support in reminding students about the importance of this and the need to return to the good habits we had in place previously. Additionally, please ensure your child has their own face mask with them, preferably a reusable one; we are conscious that disposable ones have an impact on the environment.

Could I also remind you of the importance of continuing with the Lateral Flow Testing as this is one of the best ways of preventing the spread of infection. All students should be testing twice a week and reporting the results to us via https://bit.ly/3bYMjfD

We want to ensure our students and staff are kept safe in the run up to the Christmas break, and I thank you for your continued support.

Headteacher
