Ben Robson, a Countesthorpe Academy 6th Form student, has reached a significant milestone in his refereeing career with a promotion from Level 7 to Level 6. This achievement follows his completion of two positive observations and officiating 30 matches over September and October, marking a key step toward his ultimate goal of officiating in the Premier League.
Ben began refereeing at 14 during the 2021/22 season, inspired by his brother’s example. His first match at Leicester City’s Seagrave training ground launched a promising journey that has included cup final appointments as a linesman in his first two seasons at Holmes Park.
Over three seasons, Ben has sought guidance from top professionals, attending meetings with Premier League referees such as Anthony Taylor, Josh Smith, and John Brooks. Progressing to U18 games and now adult football, he has met each challenge with growing confidence and skill.
Last season, Ben officiated four cup finals—three as a linesman and one as the referee—and officiated at the iconic King Power Stadium. His standout performance earned him the title of Young Referee of the Year for 2023/24.
Recently, Ben added another accolade by winning the **Young Match Official of the Leicestershire FA Annual Referee Summit, presented by Premier League referee Sam Barrott.
Ben continues to develop the unique skills refereeing offers, both on and off the pitch, and remains focused on his journey toward the Premier League. We are immensely proud of Ben’s achievements and look forward to seeing what the future holds for this talented young official.
