Update from Mrs Aitcheson – 4th December 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

As we approach the last two weeks of this half term, I would like to thank you once again for all the support you continue to provide as we work through these difficult times.

We fully appreciate the challenges of students at home self-isolating and are working hard to keep everyone safe whilst keeping as many students in school as possible. We are really pleased with the way our students are engaging with Microsoft Teams Live Lessons and the online learning whilst they are at home and have seen some fantastic work from students.

This week we have seen an increase in the number of positive cases that have been reported to us. Since 28/11/2020, we have dealt with five positive cases in school across three different year groups. This reflects the number of cases in the local area as cases in Blaby are still well above the average for England. Of particular concern are the numbers of cases amongst the 14-18 age group and we have seen this reflected in cases reported to us this week

It is essential that we are all stringent in continuing to follow government guidance and I would ask for your support in ensuring this happens.

Please remind your child that as we are in a Tier 3 restricted area the following applies:-

  • you must not meet socially indoors or in most outdoor places with anybody you do not live with, or who is not in your support bubble, this includes in any private garden or at most outdoor venues
  • you must not socialise in a group of more than 6 in some other outdoor public spaces, including parks, beaches, countryside accessible to the public, a public garden, grounds of a heritage site or castle, or a sports facility – this is called the ‘rule of 6’

We know the vast majority of you are working really hard to ensure all guidance is followed. However, we are concerned by the number of reports we are having about students not sticking to these rules outside school. This is obviously a cause for concern as we know that social contact is a significant cause of transmission in the community. We would ask for your support in ensuring that you child is fully aware of the rules and their implications.

We want everyone to be able to enjoy the Christmas break and as such we need to try to limit the risk of transmission as much as we possibly can by sticking to these rules

A reminder also that if anyone in the family is being tested as they are symptomatic, then all family members MUST stay at home until the test result is received.

We are in the process of finalising end of term arrangements and I will write to you next week with details of this.

Once again, many thanks for your support.

Best wishes

Mrs C Aitcheson
