Principal’s Letter to Parents – November 2018

Dear Parents,

We are now well into the second half term of this year and I would like to update you on some of the developments within the College and remind you of some key events coming up this half term.

Students have settled really well into this academic year. Our recent Sixth Form Open Evening was a huge success and we were delighted to see so many of our Year 11 students join us on that night who are already committed to being part of our Sixth Form next year.

On Friday 16th November 2018 we have our annual Careers Day where students from all year groups will take part in different events related to potential career choices and development of skills that will prepare them for employment. This is a great day where professionals from a huge range of industries and workplaces join us.

As well as sharing information through letters, we will continue to put as much information as we can on social media to keep you informed of upcoming events and appreciate all your positive comments and responses.

I hope that you enjoyed reading our College Magazine at the end of last half term which highlighted some of the successes we have had and I hope gave you a flavour of life in the college. The next issue is already underway and students and staff are working hard to ensure the articles are exciting and allow you to share in celebrating our success.

Update on buildings

I am delighted to be able to tell you that we have recently completed a total refurbishment of the changing rooms on the Countesthorpe site. Following 12 weeks of building works and renovation, we now have a brand new fantastic facility for the students to enjoy.

We have also refurbished the boys’ toilets on the Countesthorpe site.

In addition to this, and in order to ensure our students are safe and buildings are protected, we have also increased CCTV coverage in the vicinity of these areas.

Mock examinations - Year 11 and Year 13

Mock exam season is almost upon us and from Monday 12th November 2018, Years 11 and 13 will be sitting mock exams. This is a really important time and we wish all students the very best of luck. To prepare students for these we run ‘Walking Talking Mocks’ which put students in an exam situation prior to their actual exam with an expert teacher to talk them through exam questions. These are a brilliant way to help to prepare students for exams and we know have an impact on results.

The Year 11 mocks are followed by a Parents’ Evening in December where the results will be issued.  Year 11 parents will receive more information about this closer to the time.

Events this term

As we get closer to the Christmas break there will be a number of reward and celebratory events in the College. Please keep an eye out for information about these events.

We very much value your support and views and want to develop good relationships with parents. Over the next few weeks we will be sending out a parent survey to gather your views on the college and will also ask some questions about specific areas you would like more information about.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs C. Aitcheson
Principal
