Parent Governor Election

Dear Parent/Carer,

PARENT TRUSTEE COMMITTEE MEMBER ELECTION

I am writing to you to invite you to stand for election as a parent governor/trustee, or nominate another parent to do so. At Countesthorpe Leysland Community College there are currently a number of vacancies for parent governors.

The Board of Governors/Trustees, with the Principal, has overall responsibility for the running of the College. The Board has three core strategic functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding the Principal to account for the educational performance of the College and its pupils; and
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the College and making sure its money is well spent.

No special qualifications are needed and the most important thing is to have a keen interest in the College and be prepared to play an active part in the work of the Board of Governors. However, we would particularly welcome nominations from parents with the following background/skills:-

  • Law/legal profession
  • Human Resources
  • Finance

Training is available for all Governors and this Board of Governors has an expectation that those new to being a Governor/Trustee, will attend free induction training, as a minimum.

The downloadable application pack summarises the circumstances under which someone cannot serve as a governor/trustee. Nominations must be from parents, or individuals exercising parental responsibility, of a child at the College.

If you would like to stand for election please contact the College for a pack or download from one by following this link. Please return the nomination for return it to the College no later than Friday 2ndNovember 2018. You should also include a short personal statement to support your nomination, which should be no longer than 250 words. Self-nominations will be accepted but if you are nominating another parent, please seek their prior consent. Nomination forms should be returned to the College marked for the attention of Mrs C. Aitcheson or returned to admin@clcc.college stating clearly that it is a nomination for governor.

If there are more nominations than vacancies the election will be by secret ballot. If that is necessary, voting papers will be sent to all parents together with details of the ballot procedure.

Please contact Mrs S Uprichard (Chair of the Board of Trustees) suprichard@clcc.College for further information.

Yours faithfully,

Catherine Aitcheson

Principal and Returning Officer
