Online Learning Information

As we continue to work our way through these challenging times, staff at Countesthorpe Academy are working really hard to provide remote education for your child, following their usual curriculum plans.

From Tuesday 5th January, your child will be invited and expected (if well) to attend live lessons by their classroom teachers, through Microsoft Teams. Your child will be expected to follow their usual timetabled lessons, with an understanding that lessons may last approximately 50 minutes rather than an hour, to allow staff time to set up. Dates for your child’s return to school and face to face lessons have already been shared by Mrs Aitcheson.

Your child will need access to a device that can access the internet in order to access their live lessons. This could include a tablet, iPad or smart phone using the Microsoft Teams app, or a laptop, computer or even a playstation/Xbox, using the internet and going to the Microsoft Teams website. Pupils have accounts set up on Microsoft Teams already. In order to login, your child will just need to use their school email address (e.g. 21-JBloggs@clcc.college)  and their network password. This is the same password that they use to log onto the computers in school and for satchel:one (Show My Homework).

Scheduled live lessons will show in their calendar area on Microsoft Teams and pupils will also receive an email. If there is not a scheduled lesson showing, the teacher may set the lesson up at the time the lesson is due to begin, during the timetabled lesson slot. If a lesson does not begin after 10 minutes, the teacher will have set work in their Teams area (subject area such as ‘REP 11YRE3’ on Microsoft Teams). For your child’s remote education, they will need to complete their work in their subject exercise book or booklets (which they should have at home with them) or they can use lined/plain paper to complete their work.

When your child joins their lesson, they should join with their microphones muted for a calm and settled start to the lesson. Please remind your child that our usual behaviour policy should be followed and we expect pupils to behave with respect in order for them to ‘be the best you can be’. If pupils have the opportunity to write in the chat feature on Teams, please remind them that this must only be relevant to the teaching and learning of the lesson, to ask their teacher a question or to share their answers.

The pupil cameras have all been disabled on their accounts.

During your child’s live lesson they will:

  • Begin with a ‘Connect’ activity, which will review previous learning
  • Be given clear explanations and instructions
  • Receive support from their teacher to make sure they can fully participate in the learning activity
  • Receive live feedback through teacher questioning, modelled answers, quizzing and/or whole-class feedback
  • Be encouraged to engage and interact with the teacher and lesson activities

Please use our pupil and parent guides to Microsoft Teams (see below) to support your child with remote learning. If you have any further questions regarding remote learning, or if your circumstances have changed and your child needs support with access to a device,  please contact me via the school telephone number 01162771555 or on my email address amckenzie@clcc.college.

Before your child returns to school after their isolation period, could I please ask that you get them to complete our remote learning survey. This will be emailed to your child and it is important that they complete this before returning to school as this supports us with preparing them for their return and continuing to improve our remote education for our pupils. Thank you for your continued support during this challenging time.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs A. McKenzie

Assistant Principal
