Latest Year 11 Progress Review and Important Year 11 News

Dear Parent/Carer,

The latest information on how your child is progressing is now available via the MyEd app. This includes an indication on their currently working at grade against their target and an effort grade for each subject.

Year 11 is the most important year to date in your child’s school career and it is vital that we work together to ensure the most positive and successful experience. Information on how to download the app is included with this letter.

This is also an opportunity to update you after we come towards the end of the first half term. Teachers have been reviewing GCSE target grades with students and sharing with them their high expectations for the year ahead.

Autumn Term Events:

Over the coming weeks we will be working with Year 11 students on how to apply to our Sixth Form or other providers as appropriate, working on revision skills and conducting Sixth Form tasters. We are also planning Walking Talking Mocks – an additional support strategy in advance of the November PPEs (Pre-Public Examinations).

Key dates for your diary:

Monday 11th October – Intervention Assemblies

Wednesday 13th October – Elevate present “Ace your Exams” skills workshop to students. This will complement the work being done with Year 11 Form Tutors on revision skills.

Wednesday 3rd November: Sixth Form Open Evening (5-8pm)

Monday 8th November: Year 11 Pre-Public Examinations (and Walking Talking Mocks) for two weeks. An examination timetable is attached to this letter (https://bit.ly/3uN67Mj)  so students can organise their revision schedules. A personalised timetable will be issued nearer the time.

Wednesday 10th November: Sixth Form Tasters

Thursday 9th December: Year 11 PPE Results Day and Year 11 Virtual Parents’ Evening- grades handed out to students and made available to parents via the MyEd app).

Announcements about exams in 2022

The government has just announced that students will benefit from a range of adaptations to GCSE exams– these adaptations will help them reach their potential following the disruption they’ve faced. Detail is limited at the moment, but we will share this with students as more information emerges.

Plans include:

  • A choice of topics or content on which students will be assessed in GCSE English literature, history, and geography.
  • Providing advance information on the focus of exams to support students’ revision in subjects where there is not a choice of topics.
  • Giving students formulae sheets in GCSE maths and revised equation sheets in GCSE combined science and physics.
  • Changing requirements for practical science work and practical art and design assessments to ensure fairness.

The remainder of the autumn term is set to be a very busy one for our Year 11 students. With your support and encouragement at home we look forward to seeing some very positive results from this year group. With that in mind, please take the time to discuss the latest interim report on progress this week with your child.

Yours sincerely,

Mr T. Gartside

Deputy Headteacher
