Keeping Students Safe Online

With so many of our students engaging with their remote learning this half term, it was great for our students to learn more about keeping safe online as part of Safer Internet Day.

The theme for Safer Internet Day 2021 was “an Internet we Trust: exploring reliability in the online world”.

In our online assembly Mrs Hunt covered the importance of communicating safely online, and how face to face contact, either with your family in your home, or with Friends via Facetime/Zoom etc can add a dimension that would be missing from simple text based replies.

Mrs Hunt talked about the well-being side of actually interacting with people “offline”, like watching a film with your family, or playing board games together; activities such as this help to give students a break from social media and other online activities. All of this helps students to understand the subtlety involved in communication, and that sometimes things online aren't presented with the care and consideration normal human interaction would have.

Parents, if you would like to know more about how to keep your child safe online, then we would recommend this website as a great starting point - https://www.saferinternet.org.uk/advice-centre/parents-and-carers
