Girls Physics Challenge

On Thursday 22nd of June, four of our triple science students attended the Girls Physics Challenge run at Sir Christopher Hatton Academy as part of its role as an Institute of Physics Lead School with support from the Wellingborough Ogden Trust Partnership.

Countesthorpe Leysland College have been working with Hatton Academy this year on developing science skills and encouraging students to consider following STEM careers.

This event allowed our students to plan, design and make their own heat shield for safe atmospheric re-entry from space.  We also met guest speaker, Dr Judith Croston from the Open University who told us about her accidental decision to go in to astrophysics through a series of entertaining chances.

Next year, the science department will continue to work with Hatton academy, the Institute of Physics, the National space centre and the Ogden trust to increase our student’s opportunities to experience science in the real world.
